Volunteering with Ensight

The Ensight Skills Center welcomes volunteers who wish to donate their time and skills to help serve people who are visually impaired. Our volunteer opportunities include direct service to our clients, operations support, special events, internships for college students, and opportunities for corporate groups. Whatever your interests and abilities, Ensight offers a way to make a difference. 
Direct Service

Volunteer Drivers
Description:  Drivers help to transport clients to and from appointments at the Ensight Skills Center locations. 
Requirements: Must be over 21 and have a valid drivers license.
Time: varies 


Description: Choose material and read it aloud to the clients who are  visually impaired and struggle to read on their own.
Requirements: Excellent reading voice and patience
Time: varies

Outreach to Hispanic Population/Translators
Description: Helps Ensight communicate with clients. Attends community events to work with Ensight’s outreach staff to present the information in Spanish.
Requirements: Must speak Spanish
Time: varies

Education Group Facilitator 
Description: Assist with  activities for our support/education groups.  Includes seeking possible presenters, calling the list of attendees for reminders, and updating our list of attendees.
Requirements: Friendly personality, flexible schedule, and familiarity with JAWS and/or Zoomtext for computer class
Time: Ranges between weekly, biweekly, and monthly

Operations Support:
Low Vision Clinic
Description: Assist with medical record filing, answering calls, and calling clients to complete follow up Exit interviews or update the client files.
Requirements: Office experience
Time: 1-4 hours per week

Newsletter Operations
Description: Fold, label, and prepare the bi-monthly newsletters to be sent out
Requirements: Must be able to follow directions
Time: 3-4 hours every other month
